Introduction
- The Department of English was founded in 2004 and admitted its first class of 50 students.
- The Department is committed to enhancing students’ command of English for future employment and research ability for advanced study.
- All the courses are taught exclusively in English and basic training courses are taught in a small-sized class.
- The Department is currently composed of four classes and 228 students.
Faculty
- The Department’s faculty consists of 10 full-time teaching members and an administrative assistant.
- Of the teaching faculty, 9 members have received doctoral degrees and one holds Master’s degree, all specializing in at least one of the following disciplines:

- Language Education and Children’s Literature

Curriculum
The Department offers B.A. program. The program offers courses in the areas of literature, linguistics, second foreign languages, and basic language skills. The M.A. program offers literary courses in the daytime curriculum for students of literature and linguistic-and-TESL courses in the evening curriculum for teaching professionals. The Ph.D. program offers literary courses.
- Each member of our faculty has been involved in academic studies in his/her specialized discipline. Additionally, many teachers have received awards from the National Science Council for their research projects. Currently several teachers are working on their proposed projects under the subsidy from the NSC.
- The Department holds a regional conference every year and a national or an international conference every two or three years.
Future Development
- The Department is preparing to offer M.A. program in English teaching, British/American literature in the near future.
- The Department is preparing to cooperate academically with universities at home and abroad so as to broaden the vision of the Department and improve its status vis-à-vis other major Taiwan universities.
- The Department is also preparing to visit universities at home and abroad as part of its effort to promote academic cooperation and exchanges.
- The Department will cooperate with the Department of Music and the Department of Art Industry in elevating the quality of Western drama performances.
