Introduction

History
The Department of Art and Craft was renamed “The Department of Art Industry” in 2007, and it is committed to a professional art training within the context of the art industry.
The department has been transformed into an institute that nurtures professional art industry talents with various training such as the Multi-Media Applied Program, Social Art Profession, Digital Industry, Picture Books Industry and Publication Industry.

Features
1. Foster diverse professional capacities to create art:
Foster professional talent into having basic artistic creation capacities, unique insights into the trends, adjustment to the currency as well as the fluctuation of artistic markets.
2. Professional capacities to integrate information technology with art:
With the mindset of the information technology era as well as the integration of cutting-edge technology and digital media to educate talent into specialized digital art professionals in order to explore art industry markets and to make creative products industrialized and internationalized. 
3. Combine and develop graphics with the digital industry: 
The combination of graphics with the digital industry plus teaching and research resources from The Graduate Institute of Children’s Literature of National Taitung University help the new industrial area of graphic creation and appreciation to expand academic authority. 
4. The infusion of graphic art industry of eastern Taiwan aboriginals: 
There are six major aboriginal ethnic groups in Taitung, and with the application of diverse and abundant cultural heritage from various ethnic groups, support from local government and units of research and promotion, ethnic features have been created for the graphic art industry.

Curriculum

  1. Foster diverse artistic talent with professional yet well-balanced artistic capacities.

  4. Infuse and develop the unique ethnic cultures of eastern Taiwan with graphic art industry aboriginals.

Future Development

  1. Improve the quality of teaching and research is the first priority by conducting professional studying programs such as graphics and digital courses. Through purchasing computers and multimedia related devices, art industry books and journals year by year, teachers’ teaching and research results will be promoted and at the same time national art competitions and exhibitions will be held.
  2. Combine the department with Art Industry-Academia Collaboration Center in order to cooperate with local industries, apply local culture and traveling resources, promote and expand the productivity of the center.
  3. Bolster the graduate institute of art industry by strengthening research and cultivating manpower with advanced artistic creation abilities and artistic sales.
  4. Develop research with distinction and hold varied art industry workshops so that local people have the opportunity to participate in. Assist both teachers and students to compete in international competitions and exhibitions. Collaborate with international bibliopoles in order to publish works from both teachers and students.
